Why anvils and arabesques?

Prague April, 2010
I chose the title based on an idea that came to me a while back.  I have always liked titles and words that can create an image in the mind. I like the fact that at  first glance  these words seem to be polar opposites.  Anvil conjures a very hard masculine image while  the word arabesque creates an image of an elegant ballet pose. While this is true I think that there is a great cross over of imagery between the two.  I use an anvil as a tool  to create metal work with beautiful flowing curves. It struck me as profound when I looked up the definition of "arabesque"  1. an ornamental design consisting of intertwined flowing lines, originally found in Arabic or Moorish decoration. 2. Ballet a posture in which the body is supported on one leg, with the other leg extended horizontally backward. It seems that even by definition arabesque is a part of my life.

Writing has never been my strong suit, I have always been a visual guy.  My goal of this blog is to chronicle the journey of a self employed artisan creating beauty and the challenges of having two talented daughters that dance at a very high level. One daughter as a student in the professional ballet training program of Canada's National Ballet School, the other taking Ballet, Jazz and Song and Dance.
